Smart Grid Description

The Smart Grid, often called the energy internet, is a system of interconnected technologies that enable two-way communications between different parts of the electric power system, from generation through to your meter and your home appliances that consume electricity. The Smart Grid allows for greater insight and predictability about energy supply and demand and allows for greater integration of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power.

Smart Meters are one of the most important and visible components of the Smart Grid. Smart Meters are electric meters that allow two-way communication between your home and your utility company via a wireless link. This two-way communication is the foundation of the Smart Grid – allowing both the utility and the customer to have improved information on how energy is being used.
